Project Summary

The project was to remove and replace Existing ATS’s throughout David Grant Medical Center, at their existing locations, while maintaining a working Hospital. After the Job Walk it was determined the Existing ATS’s could not be replaced in their current location.

Collins provided a design change, which allowed the project to move forward. We would install all the ATSs, associated with each Substation, within the Substation walls, on the exterior of the Hospital. With this change, we would use the Existing ATSs as a J Box, putting the Existing ATS in Emergency Bypass to feed the existing loads.

We intercepted the Normal Power Feeder to each Existing ATS (Line Side), re-routed it to the Normal Power Feeder of the New ATS (Line Side), within the substation. We then removed the rest of the feeder from the Substation to the Existing ATS.

We intercepted the Emergency Power Feeder to each Existing ATS (Line Side), re-routed it to the Emergency Power Feeder of the New ATS (Line Side), within the substation. We then re-routed the rest of the feeder to the New ATS (Load Side) to complete the feeder from the Substation to the Existing ATS.

This was all accomplished while maintaining the Hospital without any interruptions in service. We provided detailed Method of Procedures (MOPs) and coordination with Facilities, for each ATS.

Through a Change Order, we were tasked with changing out the Existing Normal and Emergency Substation Switchgear, while maintaining the Hospital. Through MOPs, we provided a work plan to completely remove and replace each substation, maintaining the Normal and Emergency power systems without any unscheduled outages and/or interruptions.
