What is an Electrical Project Manager?

An electrical project manager oversees all components of electrical projects from inception to completion. This role focuses on organizing, coordinating, and controlling the preparation and execution of construction contracts to meet the company’s objectives of maximizing profit, quality, and safety. They manage projects in a manner that exceeds our customers’ expectations by building trust through transparent communication, delivering projects on time and within budget, and adhering to all company safety policies and OSHA-mandated requirements.

Electrical project managers work with a variety of commercial and industrial projects, including:

Hotels, retail stores, and airports
Casinos and entertainment venues 
Distribution centers and warehouses
Government facilities, jails, and hospitals
Hotels, power plants, colleges, and universities

In addition, renewables project managers focus on sustainable power solutions, including:

Solar photovoltaics (PV) and floatovoltaics
Battery energy storage systems (BESS)
Carport and ground mount installations
Microgrid energy systems

Project Oversight & Coordination:

  • Oversee day-to-day operations of electrical projects from start to finish
  • Ensuring timely delivery, budget adherence, and positive cash flow
  • Develop project timelines, milestones, and deliverables before work begins
  • Collaborate with field teams, clients, and subcontractors to maintain project alignment

Pre-Construction & Planning:

  • Organize and lead pre-construction meetings to align teams and define scope
  • Develop project budgets, cost codes, and project schedules
  • Manage change orders to ensure efficient project execution and quality outcomes

Financial & Performance Management:

  • Monitor cash flow, cost projections, and project billing for each project
  • Monitor margin gain/fade to ensure profitability
  • Maintain customer satisfaction and compliance with project specifications

Team Leadership & Mentorship:

  • Mentor and train project engineers, coordinators, and administrators
  • Support field teams by providing guidance and feedback
  • Assist field foremen to ensure safe, smooth, and efficient operations and installation

Compliance & Risk Management:

  • Acquire the necessary permits required for electrical construction
  • Manage inspections, resolve project challenges, and ensure the timely completion of all administrative tasks
  • Oversee close-out procedures and as-built documentation

Financial & Performance Management:

  • Monitor cash flow, cost projections, and project billing for each project
  • Monitor margin gain/fade to ensure profitability
  • Maintain customer satisfaction and compliance with project specifications
